‘Prendiamo il fresco – Sommerfrische 2018

Austria has many lakes, man-made swimming ponds, and crystal-clear rivers. Long before the completion of a railway route to take summer vacationers from Vienna to the Adriatic Sea, the Viennese had built themselves little cottages in the nearby countryside as summer getaways. This notion of the summer getaway (Sommerfrische) has been around since antiquity, when aristocratic families would pack up and move house from the city to the countryside every summer.

Today hip so-called bourgeois-bohemian (aka Bobo) urbanites grow vegetables in their own gardens, others go swimming or sailing to their heart’s content. But at the end of the summer they all go back to their everyday lives in the city.

In unstable times like these we yearn for the idyllic and crave the carefree.

With a healthy dose of the 1990s rosa mosa captures this zeitgeist in its new SS2018 collection: French linen sailcloth in vibrant turquois, cinnamon, rust-red, or purple. Classic napa calf leather in white, black, navy blue, and date-brown for unisex square-toe loafers and women's old-school tennis shoes.

There is also a unisex welt-sewn deck shoe with a robust white rubber sole and bright white hand stitching on a navy blue upper.

The flexible wooden sandals made of wood from Austrian forests–meanwhile a rosa mosa classic–return this season either as a slipper or with a heel strap. Accessories include casual ball-like backpacks made of soft calf leather in three sizes: S, M, and L and round willow baskets with sailcloth/leather lids and extra-long wooden straps, a tongue-in-cheek homage to early French fisherman’s baskets. rosa mosa complements the new ‘Prendiamo il fresco – Sommerfrische 2018’ collection with two of its own hat models: a corn husk beret and a raffia palm straw visor. Combined with vegetable tanned leather they are both manufactured exclusively for rosa mosa by the Viennese hat maker Mühlbauer.
